Exposure/Location : ponds, lakes, slow moving streams. Can be found up to 3m deep.

Height/Spread: 60-90cm (2-3ft)

Bloom: male flowers under water, female flowers at surface.  Male flowers break off, float to the surface and release pollen. Pollen gets caught by female flowers.  Seeds form and get pulled downward to the bottom with spiral structure unique to female flowers.

Comments : Great habitat for fish and other pondlife.  Food for waterfowl and turtles. Wide native range also includes the caribbean, where it is consumed by manatees.
