Leaves consumed by some lepidoptera larvae, including Io moth.  Used by mammals and birds for food and shelter.  Remarkably shade tolerant for an evergreen it can also grow in full sun if sheltered  Mostly found in forests including swamp, flat, slope and mountain top.
